Atherton and the area known as the Atherton Tablelands is a highland region of northern Australia near Cairns, Queensland. The Tablelands is a mix of rainforest, wetlands and savanna and is home to numerous birds and wildlife like tree kangaroos, wallabies, possums and platypus. Atherton and its Tableland regions offers a plethora of things to do, see and explore. From Chinese Heritage Sites with preserved wooden temple to highland cloud rainforests to the famous must-do Australia outback. For the self drive there is the so called Waterfalls Circuit, a 17km driving loop that includes Millaa Millaa Falls, which is a favourite of nature photographers.
