Home/Trax2 International Postcards / Seeking treasures in the Valley of the Kings & crusing the Nile

nile.jpg
1985 Egypt Africa first we caught the train from Cairo to Aswan and in the middle of the night got "smuggled" on to a local Felucca (sailing boat - at that time it was illegal for tourist to sail on Feluccas as the authorities wanted all tourists to cruise on the 5 Star multi decked ships - needless to say I encountered the same policy 16 years later in China but on bamboo rafts and local fishing boats, but that will be another story at another time)
and so our Nile sailing adventure began, once on the water we where OK as the Egyptian Tourist Police had no water boats to enforce the policy, (but I think the police was paid off anyway). Next day, on the banks in a bend of the mighty Nile sandwiched between 2 giant sand dunes we saw camels ("ships of the desert") and these will be our ride to the Valley of the Kings, after Valley of the Kings we traded camels for donkeys to take us further into the desert mountains to the Valley of the Queens,
more photos to come but first I need to recovered them from 35mm slide film... so keep watching this space...
